Iran to Become Hub of Food Security in Region: FAO

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s deputy minister of agriculture for Management and Human Resources Development Affairs said the country will become the center of food security in the region in cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Houshang Mohammadi made the comments in his meeting with the secretary general of the Center on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) on the sidelines of the 34th Session of the CIRDAP Executive Committee (CE-34), which was held in Thailand.

He emphasized expanding and broadening cooperation with the center more than before. 

In the meeting, it was proposed that Iran be introduced as the center of food security in the region given the preparation of a knowledge-based food security document in the country.

The deputy minister of agriculture also submitted a comprehensive report on the production of grains, animal and greenhouse productions, fisheries and the development of aquaculture and announced that Iran is ready to share its fruitful experience and know-how in the agricultural sector.

The director general of CIRDAP, for this turn, stated that Iran is one of the influential and constructive countries in the center.

From the original six members, CIRDAP has now grown up as a Centre of 15 member countries. The member countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh (Host State), Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
