Coach Pleased with Iranian Girls’ Performance in Asia Cup

TEHRAN – Head coach of Iran’s U-18 women's basketball team, Eleni Kapogianni, said her girls are performing incredibly well with limited preparation, as they take each game as it comes.

Iran has defeated Hong Kong 65-52 and Kyrgyzstan 73-40 in the 2024 FIBA U-18 Women's Asia Cup Division B.

The Iranian girls will play Samoa on Wednesday.

“None of these games are easy for us until we make them easy. Our motto is being tough on defense for the full 40 minutes, because this is what will keep us in games and competitive,” the Greek coach said.

“We know we are not the favorites at this tournament, but we are going step by step, doing our best and seeing what happens,” she noted.

Poised to face Samoa in the final group match tomorrow, Kapogianni knows her girls will embrace the challenge, as both teams are undefeated.

“Samoa is the favorite but we will go back, watch the tape, and we will put our best effort in. This means a lot for Iran’s basketball, and Iran. Everything comes at the right time, so everything will come when we are ready,” she stated.
