Iran Condemns Terrorist Attack in Burkina Faso

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned a terrorist attack that killed up to 200 people in central Burkina Faso on Saturday.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani on Tuesday condemned the fatal attack that has killed and injured hundreds of military forces and civilians in Burkina Faso’s region of Barsalogho.

Expressing his condolences to the Burkinabe government and nation, especially the families of victims of the bitter incident, the Iranian spokesman wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

An armed group linked to al-Qaeda, known as JNIM, has claimed responsibility for the attack that killed up to 200 people and injured at least 140 on Saturday in Barsalogho, about 40 km north of the strategic town of Kaya.

Fighters opened fire on teams of people digging trenches designed to protect security outposts. Several soldiers were missing after the attack, and the attackers took weapons and a military ambulance.

Armed groups have killed thousands of people and displaced more than two million in Burkina Faso over more than a decade.
