Entire Region Facing Threat, Iran’s FM Warns
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Pointing the finger at the US and the Israeli regime for the turmoil in Syria, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the whole region is under threat.
In an interview with Iraq’s Al Sharqiya TV channel on Friday, Araqchi said there are a lot questions surrounding the rapid pace of developments in Syria.
Pointing to a plot hatched by the US and the Israeli regime behind the developments in Syria, Araqchi said, “After Gaza, they went for Lebanon, and now they have gone for Syria. This will not be confined to Syria as the whole region has been threatened.”
The Iranian minister noted that the armed rebels fighting against the Damascus government have been listed by the United Nations as terrorist groups.
He also lashed out at the self-proclaimed advocates of the fight against terrorism for remaining silent or supporting the armed militancy in Syria, saying they have apparently categorized the terrorists as good and bad.
Commenting on the conditions of the resistance front, Araqchi stated that resistance is not limited to a single approach, while there are various methods for resistance.
“A feature of resistance during the recent years has been its employment of numerous options,” he added.
Warning against the spread of terrorism from Syria, Araqchi said the security of Iraq has been jeopardized too.
“We are not foretellers, but the resistance will definitely do its duties. Some expected (Syrian President) Bashar al-Assad to fall in 2011, but it did not happen and 14 years have passed since then,” he added.
