Rafael Benitez Refuses to Lead Persepolis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The general manager of Iran’s Persepolis football club said Spanish coach Rafael Benitez has declined the offer to take charge of the team.

Persepolis parted ways with Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido last week.

The Iranian giant has been linked with Croatia’s former coach Slaven Bilic, former trainer of Dortmund Edin Terzic, and former Bayern Munich head coach Niko Kovac.

Persepolis general manager revealed that they have also negotiated with former Real Madrid’s coach Benitez, but the Spanish manager did not agree to work in the Iranian team.

Persepolis will reportedly choose its new head coach within the next two weeks.

Defending champion Persepolis sits third, five points behind leader Sepahan, in the Iran football league.
