Death Toll from Israeli Offensive in Gaza Exceeds 1360
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Gaza's Health Ministry announced that the death toll from 24 days of Israeli onslaught on Palestinians has hit 1,363 with more than 7,000 injured.
At least 17 more Palestinians were killed and 200 wounded in the bombardment of an area of Shujayea during a "humanitarian pause" unilaterally announced by Israel.
The attack came on the outskirts of the Shujayea, between Gaza City and the Israeli border, shortly after the Israeli army said it was observing a limited, four-hour Wednesday ceasefire from midday GMT, or 3pm local time.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri had earlier dismissed the Israeli pause. "The ceasefire Israel declared is for the media and has no value because it does not include the areas of conflict on the border,” He told Reuters.
It came as a Palestinian delegation prepared for a trip to Cairo to discuss a temporary humanitarian ceasefire.
The Israeli offensive, which began on July 8, has killed mostly civilians according to the UN. The fighting has forced over 215,000 Gazans to flee their homes in the overcrowded coastal strip, the WHO said.
Since the start of Israeli aggression, 58 Israelis have been killed, including 56 soldiers and two civilians, Al Jazeera reported.
