Leader Congratulates Iran’s Freestyle Wrestlers on World Title

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei congratulated the Iranian national wrestling team on winning the title of the 2015 Freestyle Wrestling World Cup held in the US city of Los Angeles.

Iran’s national freestyle wrestling team was crowned world cup championship after beating the Americans 5-3 at the Forum in Los Angeles.

Iran won the world title for the fourth time in a row.

Following the Iranians’ brilliant performance and major victories against strong teams such as the US and Turkey, the Supreme Leader in a Monday message acknowledged the national wrestling team’s considerable efforts in the competitions.

“I congratulate the wrestlers and the crew of the national freestyle wrestling team of our dear country Iran, and I praise God that our sons could once again bring honor at the international arena to this honorable nation,” Imam Khamenei said in the message.

The Wrestling World Cup has been conducted every year since the 1973 tournament. The World Cup began as a dual-meet competition for the top teams on each continent, but now features the top teams in the rankings of the previous year's world championships.
