Iran Beats Cuba at FIVB Men’s U-21 World Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran grabbed its first victory at the FIVB Men’s U-21 World Championship by defeating Cuba in three sets.

After suffering two defeats against China and Brazil, Iran beat Cuba 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18) in 1 hour and 41 minutes.

This game meant the first win for Iran at the championship, and third lost for cuba in Pool C.

Both teams are going to stay in Mexicali at qualification round for places 9 to 16.

Amin Esmaelinejad was the best offensive player of the Iranian team by scoring 20 points, 14 of them with powerfull spikes. He also recorded four points by blocking the Cuban attack and aced two times.

Cuba’s Luis Sosa scored 12 points, while Osmany Uriarte tallied 10 units.

Iran will face USA on Tuesday.

The 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U-21 World Championship is being held in Tijuana and Mexicali, Mexico on September 11-20.
