Iran’s President Hails Elections as Profitable Investment

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described the parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections as a lucrative investment that would benefit the nation for years.

After casting his ballots at the Interior Ministry on Friday morning, President Rouhani lauded the Iranian nation for enthusiastic presence in the polls, which opened at 8 am.

Full security prevails all over the country during the elections and the turnout has been great so far,  President Rouhani added.

President Rouhani underlined that all political parties and factions in the polls are indeed winners, adding that results of the elections will be respected as the majority decision by all people.

Polling stations across Iran are scheduled to work for 10 hours. Some 54.9 million Iranians are eligible to cast their votes in the two elections.

There are 290 seats in the Iranian parliament, elected by direct vote of people in nationwide election for four years.

The Assembly of Experts is also a high-ranking body that elects and oversees the activities of the leader of the Islamic Revolution.

Members of the 88-seat assembly are directly elected to office by people for an eight-year term. It holds biannual meetings to appoint a new chairman.
