Yemen Army Kills, Injures 56 Pro-Saudi Militants in Taiz
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – At least 40 Saudi-backed mercenaries were killed and 16 others injured after the Yemeni army and popular forces foiled their attack on a military camp in the Arab country’s southwestern province of Taiz.
Late on Saturday, Yemeni forces repelled a major attack by the militants near Khaled bin al-Waleed camp in Taiz, leaving more than 56 of them dead and injured, a military official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Saba news agency on Sunday.
He added that three vehicles belonging to the mercenaries were destroyed in the counterattack.
Additionally, 20 militants were slain in a Thursday Houthi strike on a major military base in the southwestern province, situated some 40 kilometers east of Mokha.
Mokha has been the scene of fierce fighting between the Saudi-backed forces and Houthi fighters in recent months.
Back in February, the pro-Saudi militants said they had seized full control of the strategic Red Sea port.
The developments come amid continued attacks against Yemen’s defenseless by the coalition led by the Saudi regime.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
More than 12,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the Saudi onslaught on the Arabian Peninsula country.
