Vast Majority of Iranians Have No Trust in US: Poll
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The results of a new poll showed that the United States is still untrustworthy in the eyes of the vast majority of the Iranian people.
According to the data released by the Iranians Polling Center, 94.5% of Iranian citizens do not trust the US government.
The center conducted the poll from October 7 to 13, asking the views of a random statistical sample of 863 Iranian adults about the current situation of the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The results of the survey indicate that 60.6% of respondents did not trust the US at all, 21.3% had very low trust in US and 12.5% had chosen the option “(trust the US) to a certain extent”.
Concerns have been growing in recent weeks that the US administration unilaterally scraps the nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).
In a major confrontational stance against Iran on October 13, US President Donald Trump refused to certify the multilateral deal on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.
Speaking from the White House, Trump said he will choose not to certify that Tehran is complying with the agreement.
The 159-page nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 was reached in July 2015 and came into force in January 2016.
Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
