US Attack on Hashid al-Shaabi Aimed at Aiding Terrorists: Iraqi Movement
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraqi movement Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq -an offshoot of the Popular Mobilization Units or Hashid al-Shaabi- condemned a recent US airstrike on the Iraqi forces near the border with Syria as an attempt to facilitate the movement of terrorist groups between the two Arab countries.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq said the recent crime against Hashid al-Shaabi forces near the border with Syria was carried out by American and Israeli fighter jets.
The purpose of the strike was to enable terrorist groups to crisscross between Iraq and Syria easily, the statement added.
Pointing to the hostile plans for diminishing the presence of Hashid al-Shaabi forces along Iraq-Syria common border, Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq stressed the need for strongly confronting “threatening plots”, according to Al Mayadeen TV.
The statement came after Hashid al-Shaabi said on Monday that it had lost 22 members in a military attack by the fighter jets of the US-led coalition near the Iraq-Syria border.
The Hashd al-Shaabi forces have played a key role in Iraq’s war against the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group since 2014.
In November 2016, Iraq's parliament voted to accord full legal status to the Popular Mobilization Units as a back-up and reserve force for the military and police and empower them to deter security and terror threats.
