Iran Hailed for Voting in Favor of Azerbaijan’s Election to UNESCO Executive Board
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan appreciated Iran for voting in favor of his country’s election to the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for a four-year term.
In a meeting on the sidelines of the 15th ECO Summit in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on Saturday night, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Azeri counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov talked about a range of issues, from the bilateral relations to the settlement of conflicts in the Caucasus region.
Congratulating the Republic of Azerbaijan on its accession to the UNESCO Executive Board, the Iranian foreign minister stressed the need for the promotion of international cooperation between Tehran and Baku.
Highlighting the close cooperation between the two neighbors in the political, economic, cultural and media fields and at various levels, Amirabdollahian said a forthcoming meeting between the presidents of the two countries in Turkmenistan reveals that diplomacy is on the right track.
The Iranian foreign minister also welcomed a planned trilateral meeting of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in Sochi, describing it as an important, effective and constructive initiative to help the region overcome the crisis, and hoping that such processes based on the will and capabilities of the regional countries would yield results.
The two senior diplomats also talked about the latest developments in Afghanistan, the upcoming Vienna negotiations about the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, and the collective cooperation among the regional countries.
