Russia Says Military Forces Repelled Ukrainian Cross-Border Raid

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Russian Defense Ministry has announced that a Ukrainian cross-border raid targeting the Belgorod region was repulsed on Sunday, resulting in losses for the attacking force in terms of personnel and equipment.

The ministry described the incursion as an attempted "terrorist attack" against civilians, according to RT news agency.

During a daily briefing on Monday, the ministry stated that the response to the attack near the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka was carried out jointly by Russian military forces and border guard units of the Federal Security Service (FSB).

According to the statement, the Ukrainian operation began at approximately 01:00 pm Moscow Time (10:00 am GMT) and involved intensive shelling of Russian civilian targets. Ukrainian troops utilized the barrage as cover in an effort to cross the Seversky Donets river.

In order to halt the assault, Russian forces employed aviation and artillery. The ministry claimed that Ukraine suffered losses of at least ten soldiers, two boats, and an armored vehicle. Additionally, the counterattack targeted five mortar squads, a multiple rocket launcher, and two Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzers located in Ukraine's Kharkov region, which were reportedly striking targets in Russia.

On Monday, Russia's Defense Ministry asserted that Ukrainian forces had attempted a large-scale offensive in the southern part of the Donetsk People's Republic. The ministry stated that Ukrainian troops had launched an attack against Russian forces using six mechanized and two tank battalions. However, due to the actions of the "East" military grouping, as well as air strikes and artillery fire near the settlements of Neskuchnoye and Novodarovka, the Ukrainian forces suffered "significant losses."
