Escalating Israeli Attacks of Gaza Claim over 700 Palestinian Lives in 24 Hours
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – At least 700 Palestinians have been killed in the last 24 hours, making it one of the bloodiest days since the Israeli war on Gaza began on October 7.
Israel’s intensifying offensive on Gaza has left death and devastation across the besieged strip. From north to south, Palestinians in Gaza say nowhere feels safe.
The Israeli military's continuous targeting, notably the Jabalia refugee camp for a second day, has resulted in numerous destroyed homes and dozens of fatalities, with more feared buried under the debris. Israel has forced specific neighborhoods in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, to move out, while crucial routes connecting to other parts have been severely impaired or destroyed by bombings.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, over 15,500 people have been confirmed killed since the conflict's onset. The authority faces challenges determining the exact toll due to healthcare system devastation, estimating 70% of Palestinian victims as women and children.
A Palestinian Civil Defence spokesperson lamented the dire conditions across Gaza, stating rescuers lack the necessary resources to reach all victims amid Israeli bombardment.
Reflecting on the harrowing situation, Gaza resident Mahmoud Basal highlighted the significant civilian casualties and injuries in every airstrike, emphasizing the gravity of the crisis. In spite of these circumstances, the Israeli army has ordered additional evacuations from certain areas in central Khan Younis, amplifying the urgency of the situation.
The military’s communication about evacuation, using a map divided into numbered blocks, displayed zones marked for departure along with a QR code for residents to scan. However, the effectiveness of such a system remains uncertain due to limited internet access caused by the destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure in the prolonged conflict.
Residents, grappling with frustration and fear, express dismay over the relocation process, especially as previously deemed safe areas are now under attack. The situation has led to a severe disconnect between central and southern Gaza, with ongoing Israeli attacks by air, land, and sea, creating a relentless atmosphere of conflict.
Reports indicate strikes on residential areas in Deir el-Balah, resulting in casualties and difficulty in retrieving bodies amid the rubble. The region, alongside central Gaza, has transformed into a battleground, prompting people to seek refuge in the south, although there is no safe place to go.
