Rescuers Struggle to Reach Injured Palestinians in Embattled Rafah Neighborhoods

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Israeli military operations have intensified in Rafah, causing widespread destruction and making it difficult for rescuers to reach injured Palestinians, local reports said.

Heavy artillery bombardment was reported on Sunday morning in the northern parts of Nuseirat and Bureij refugee camps.

The Israeli military has concentrated its operations on Rafah, demolishing entire residential neighborhoods and deploying troops and tanks deeper into the Shaboura and Yibna neighborhoods, as well as near Tal as-Sultan.

Ambulances are struggling to rescue injured Palestinians in these conflict zones.

Rafah’s medical sector is largely out of service, relying on distant field hospitals in the al-Mawasi area.

Kajsa Ollongren told Al Jazeera that "the offensive in Rafah has to stop immediately and there has to be an immediate ceasefire."

"I think that the plans that are on the table right now, proposed by President Biden, are the basis for what is needed," said Ollongren from Singapore, where she is attending the Shangri-La Dialogue.

She added that the war in Gaza could not be resolved through a "military solution."

"The war cannot go on like this," she said. "It has to stop and we have to have a two-state solution."

In its latest update, the Israeli military stated it is continuing "precise" operations in Rafah, claiming to have killed several armed fighters in the last day.

The military also reported airstrikes in central Gaza, targeting military infrastructure, weapons depots, and fighter cells.

Israeli jets struck 30 targets over the last day, according to the update.

Israel’s latest strikes across Gaza have also killed civilians, including a woman and an infant in Gaza City, the Wafa news agency reported.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported that the total death toll has risen to 36,439, with 82,627 injuries since the outbreak of the Israeli war.
