Hezbollah Launches Rocket Attack on Israeli Military Position in Jaatoun

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hezbollah announced on Monday that it had fired a barrage of Katyusha rockets at the newly established headquarters of the Israeli 146th Division in Jaatoun.

The attack was reportedly carried out in retaliation for Israel's strikes on civilian areas in southern Lebanon, particularly in the town of Maaroub.

"The fighters of the Islamic Resistance on Monday, 12-08-2024, bombarded the newly-established command headquarters of the 146th Division in Jaatoun with Katyusha rocket barrages," Hezbollah stated.

Hezbollah also indicated that the assault was intended to demonstrate support for Palestinians in Gaza.

Israeli media reported that Israel's Iron Dome air defense system failed to intercept most of the rockets.

The attack ignited a large fire in the western part of Galilee, located in northern occupied territories.

Israel has been conducting near-daily airstrikes on southern Lebanon since October 7, following the launch of its military campaign in Gaza.

In response, Hezbollah has launched retaliatory strikes, declaring its support for the Palestinians in Gaza.

The Israeli military, which has previously waged wars against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006, has repeatedly threatened to escalate its actions into a full-scale military offensive.

Hezbollah has vowed to defend Lebanese territory with all available resources and has pledged to avenge the deaths of Fuad Shukr, a senior commander, and Ismail Haniyeh, the former Hamas political leader, who were killed in separate assassination operations last month.

Speaking on Tuesday, Hezbollah’s Secretary General Seyed Hassan Nasrallah said that the occupying regime is incapable of defending itself and is fearful of potential retaliation by the Islamic Republic and Hezbollah in response to these assassinations.
