Dozens of Palestinians Killed in Southern Gaza after Israeli Ground Assault
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – More than 30 bodies, including women and children, have been recovered in Khan Younis following an Israeli military ground incursion that lasted for several hours, according to local medical officials.
Israeli forces launched a deadly assault in southern Gaza, targeting residential areas in Khan Younis, Gaza’s second-largest city. Heavy airstrikes accompanied by ground incursions into three neighborhoods led to significant casualties.
Saleh al-Hams, head of the nursing department at the European Gaza Hospital, confirmed that dozens of dead and wounded were brought to his facility and Nasser Hospital from around 3 a.m. local time (00:00 GMT). Some of the injured remain in critical condition, he added.
Israeli forces withdrew from the area after hours of intense fighting, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
At least 12 members of a single family were killed during the attack, according to local civil defense personnel, who said paramedics were initially prevented from reaching the bombed site. It took five hours before they were able to retrieve the bodies of those trapped under the rubble.
In another incident, Israeli forces struck a tent inside an evacuation center in western Khan Younis, killing five members of the same family, including children.
One woman, who was inside the tent at the time, described how her children suffered severe injuries, later succumbing to their wounds.
Meanwhile, in the western part of Nuseirat refugee camp, Israeli forces used heavy artillery against people attempting to cross the Nitzarim junction, resulting in further casualties. Many of the injured were transferred to al-Aqsa Hospital.
Elsewhere in northern Gaza, residential buildings and schools were also targeted in the ongoing Israel’s genocidal military campaign.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 30 people were killed in southern Khan Younis, 25 in northern Gaza City, and another 25 in central Gaza over the past 24 hours.
Among those killed in Khan Younis were 12 members of one family after an Israeli ground assault, which destroyed residential buildings with civilians inside.
Medical sources reported that paramedics and civil defense teams were blocked from reaching the affected areas.
Additionally, the al-Amal Institute for orphans in western Gaza was struck, killing five people.
Since October 7, the Health Ministry reports that at least 41,689 people have been killed and 96,625 injured as a result of Israeli military operations in Gaza.
In the most recent 24-hour period, 51 Palestinians were killed, with 82 more wounded, the ministry confirmed.
