Iranian President Felicitates Pope Francis on Christmas

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, in a message on Wednesday, congratulated Pope Francis on the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ and the advent of the new Christian year.

In his message to the top Roman Catholic cleric, Rouhani said that the world is now struggling with various ethical, social, cultural, and economic crises and challenges and some try to tarnish human dignity by creating division or resorting to violence.

He also asked for further cooperation and empathy to promote peace, security, and well-being throughout the world.

President Rouhani further noted that Iran has tried to take a step in this direction by proposing the idea of the World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE) that was unanimously approved at the UN General Assembly.

He added that Tehran is still ready to continue its efforts until achieving the ultimate and desired goal.

“We believe this is not possible but through collective efforts and employing teachings of Abrahamic religions, trying to achieve human excellence and perfection, and taking steps towards the realization of human being’s natural aspiration to reach tranquility and well-being,” the Iranian president stated in his letter.
