Syrian Volunteers Prepare Food for Earthquake-Displaced People (+Video)

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Volunteers from the organizations 'Syria Btjmana' and 'Syria Trust for Development' were seen cooking and delivering food for those displaced by the deadly earthquake in Hama, as seen in footage filmed on Saturday.

Rahaf Qabitri, a member of the 'Syria Btjmana' organization, stated that their organization has been aiding the affected since the start of the earthquake.

"Today, we are preparing meals not only for the affected families in Hama but for displaced families from other governorates like Aleppo and Latakia. This initiative is in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the Syria Trust for Development," said Qabitri. "We have also sent convoys of aid, including blankets, baby milk, food, and raw materials for cooking like poultry."

 

 

Last Monday, the first 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit near Gaziantep in Turkey followed by a smaller quake in Kahramanmaras province less than 12 hours later, destroying multiple buildings in the city. As of publication, the combined death toll has surpassed 28,000 with over 24,617 reported in Turkey and over 3,500 in neighboring Syria.

Local charities have been working at full capacity to aid those affected by the earthquake, which has displaced 5.3 million people according to the UN.
