Rafah Faces More 'Systematic' Attacks As Israeli Ground Offensive Looms
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A bombing campaign continues across Gaza, accompanied by heavy artillery shelling in the eastern part of Rafah city, escalating fears as an Israeli ground offensive appears imminent.
The Israeli regime's military targeted a home in Rafah, after which two children were rescued from the rubble, with more individuals still trapped. Civil defense volunteers, paramedics, and locals have mobilized to assist in the ongoing rescue efforts.
Reports from the ground indicate that the targeted houses were sheltering displaced families who had evacuated from Gaza City in recent weeks, as well as another displaced family who fled Khan Younis at the start of the ground invasion.
The situation in Rafah is rapidly deteriorating, with a shift from sporadic attacks to more systematic targeting in specific areas, raising concerns about the safety of civilians.
Save the Children's Alexandra Saieh has raised alarm about the dire conditions in Gaza, particularly for children facing starvation while food aid remains inaccessible just across the border. Saieh described the situation as the "killing of children in slow motion," highlighting the failure to deliver essential aid due to Israeli bombardment and restrictions.
A senior UN humanitarian aid official has warned that a quarter of Gaza's population, approximately 576,000 people, is on the brink of famine due to the ongoing Israeli war.
The toll of the war is devastating, with at least 29,878 people killed and 70,215 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, underscoring the urgent need for a ceasefire and humanitarian intervention.
