Iran’s Envoy to Resume Mission After Injury in Beirut Pager Blast, Wife Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The wife of Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon said her husband has undergone a successful operation on his eye after suffering a partial injury following the explosion of pagers in an Israeli terrorist operation in Beirut and will soon return to his mission.

Speaking to Tasnim on Friday, Narges Qadirian, the Iranian ambassador’s spouse, denied rumors that Mojtaba Amani has lost his sight in the simultaneous explosion of handheld pagers in Beirut on Tuesday.

She said the ambassador is in good health and the medical team is quite satisfied with the process of treatment.

The physicians have announced that the ambassador has no serious problem, will recover from the injury after a series of medical treatments and a short convalescence, and will be able to return to his mission, Qadirian stated.

Amani has sustained a superficial and minor injury, his wife noted, adding that former minister of health, Dr. Qazizadeh Hashemi, who is in charge of the treatment procedure, has said that the ambassador will be recovering after a minor operation performed on Thursday.

The explosions of thousands of pagers widely used by resistance factions and also public service workers in Lebanon left at least a dozen dead and around 3,000 people injured on Tuesday.

The Lebanese government has blamed Israel and vowed to file a complaint with the United Nations over the attack.

Later on Wednesday, as many as 20 more people were killed and more than 450 others injured after more communication devices exploded across Lebanon, including in the capital Beirut as well as the country’s south and east.

The Israeli regime has declined to comment on the developments, but Hezbollah has held it squarely responsible.
